The exhibition is dedicated to the personalities from the illustrious artistic, social and family network of Hans Purrmann and Mathilde Vollmoeller-Purrmann. Many of these personalities, such as Henri Matisse, Max Liebermann, Rainer Maria Rilke, Leo von König, Lovis Corinth, Karl Vollmoeller, Hermann Hesse, Josephine Baker, Erich Kästner and Tilla Durieux, were among the favorite subjects of leading photojournalists of their time.

The special significance of the correspondence between Hans Purrmann and the art historian couple Barbara and Erhard Göpel lies in the book Life and Opinions of the Painter Hans Purrmann, which they published in 1961 and which remains authoritative to this day, an extensive collection of sources with writings and letters by Hans Purrmann, the genesis of which can be traced on the basis of the correspondence to be edited.

Friendship is one of the great themes of humanity. Especially in the first half of the 20th century, which was characterized by historical and social upheaval, friendship became an existential value in society.
The special exhibition “Friends of Modernism” at the Museum Purrmann-Haus in Speyer not only shows numerous great works by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff (1884-1976), Emy Roeder (1890-1971) and Hans Purrmann (1880-1966), but also tells stories of different lives, contemporary events and true friendship.

Purrmann SEEWEIT

Galerie Bodenseekreis, Meersburg – Museum Langenargen – Galerie in der Lände Kressbronn

“Purrmann SEEWEIT” is the name of the exhibition cooperation along the northern shore of Lake Constance. With the Galerie Bodenseekreis Meersburg, the Kunstmuseum Langenargen and the Galerie in der Lände Kressbronn, three important art galleries in the region are joining forces for the first time. They pay tribute to the painter Hans Purrmann and his wife, the artist Mathilde Vollmoeller-Purrmann. From July, a whole “Purrmann cosmos” can be experienced on Lake Constance. The opening of the exhibition in Meersburg on July 14 will be the “starting signal”.
