Collioure. Babel des arts. 1905-1945

Musée d’art Moderne de Collioure
11. Juni – 3. Oktober 2022

From the first years of the 20th century to the post-war period, Collioure has never ceased to attract artists from all over Europe. A haven of peace and a refuge in the face of war, Collioure was a magnet for the journeys of men and women who came to paint the light in a Europe of darkening skies.
Whether they are attracted by its mild climate, its preserved landscapes or its exceptional light, many have found themselves there, recreating according to their origins „artists‘ colonies“ linked by national solidarity. They rub shoulders, frequent the same places, paint the same sites and all share the same love for the small port and its beauties. The starting point for a larger research, this exhibition aims to create a study of these artists from else where who made Collioure a veritable Babel of the arts.
